St John’s mission is to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and to act to enhance health and well-being of people of all races and creeds anywhere in New Zealand.
Making over 50,000 trips per year, the St John Health Shuttle is a free community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health related appointments. The service is often used by older people, by people who are too unwell to drive a vehicle, and those who cannot access other transport options.
Driving a St John Shuttle vehicle, you will be responsible for ensuring clients safely reach their appointments on time. This volunteer role is highly customer focused and whilst some clients may be physically able, others may need assistance. Therefore, in addition to having a sensitivity toward those who are unwell, being physically fit is also important in this role.
The shuttles in our area run from Queenstown to Invercargill and Cromwell/Alexandra to Dunedin.
In return, you are provided with relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family).
The best gift anyone can give is 'time'. Come join the St John team of volunteers where the time you give is highly valued in your communities.
St John welcome and encourage diversity in their workforce and adhere to best practice equal employment opportunity principles in all aspects of their recruitment and our ways of working.
