Working Hours

The Otago Community Hospice has to raise $3.2 million each year to maintain its service across Otago – ensuring that anyone needing specialist palliative care gets that care no matter where they live, no matter what illness they have, no matter what their age.

Their volunteers are a crucial part of the Hospice service equation. On any given week, they have 245 volunteers helping us out across 723 work hours. Without these volunteers – right across the Otago region – Hospice could not do what it does.

Volunteers are needed in the new (and bigger) Alexandra Hospice Shop at 13 Ennis Street to ensure the goods donated are sorted, put out and sold efficiently. They have a minimum of 3 volunteers (and a Manager) on shift at any time.

Otago Community Hospice takes pride in ensuring they look after volunteers and ensure they have valuable and rewarding experiences. As a volunteer you can expect:

  • A comprehensive induction
  • Dedicated staff who provide ongoing training, support and education
  • Great policies in place to keep everyone safe and clearly communicate expectations
  • Recognition and celebration throughout the year via regular newsletters and social events
