Oamaru - Van Driver

Volunteer drivers are required for two hours once a month on a Tuesday afternoon a month from 1-3pm.

Iona care home are looking for people to drive their residents, in a van for outings or to and from social outings. Social engagement and meaningful activity are essential to a healthy, happy life, no matter what your age. Iona (a PSO Enliven home) is for people over 65 years and offers a range of social activities including discussions, presentations from guest speakers, singing and music, craft, outings, cooking and meals.

Supporting older persons in a simple, practical way is a wonderfully rewarding experience. Sharing just a little bit of your time can really make their day, and it might just make yours too. Be prepared for 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!

Requirements

• A full clean drivers licence
• Iona will pay for volunteers to do a driving test with the local driving school
• Police check is required for this role
• Common sense and good mobility, physically capable of assisting an elderly person to walk
• Friendly, caring and love being around older people
• A good sense of humour

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

One Tuesday a month from 1:15 - 3:00pm. Volunteer drivers are part of a monthly roster with other drivers.
