The QLDC Libraries are a fantastic portals to recreational fulfilment, social connection, empowerment through information, education, health and wellness. QLDC Libraries strive to enhance community access to all their facilities and now they need you!

The Wanaka Library are starting up "Digital Help - Drop in Sessions". This is a pilot programme for the district, using the Wanaka Library as trial. The sessions will commence on Thursday 1st July at 4:00pm-5:30pm at the Library and take place each week on the same day at the same time.

Anyone needing help with their digital device (phone, ipad/tablet, laptop) can bring along their device to the Wanaka library and get assistance with it. The Wanaka Library are seeking volunteers to help bolster the Community Engagement Librarian - Paula Mitchell who is running the programme. The Drop-in sessions take place weekly, but any commitment is appreciated ie. one a month, as the programme is ongoing.

Requirements

Intermediate level of knowledge of smart phones, tablets, ipads, Apps and computer skills. You will be supported by the Community Engagement Librarian and are certainly not expected to know everything!

Initial community engagement shows that the level of technical help that is being asked for is low end ie. help to text a picture, help to use the COVID APP, help to email photos from phone, help to sync tablet and phone, how to use the library Apps (e-book, audio book) - and the requests are mainly from senior members of our community, but once the advertising comes out, we believe we will capture a range of ages from our community. You will be shown how to use our library APPs if you are not familiar with them.

Along with your mid-range tech skills, you will have good patience and communication skills!

Time commitment

The Drop-in Sessions run for 1.5 hours weekly on Thursdays at 4:00pm-5:30pm. They will be always staffed by the community Engagement Librarian, and the volunteers are to bolster that. As this is an on-going programme, any commitment is welcomed ie. once a month, they would of course LOVE it if you are available weekly, but are absolutely flexible and understand people's ever changing schedules.
