Youthline Southland is a youth development organisation, their work is community focussed and aims to nurture mental wellness in young people and to prevent and reduce the occurrences and community harms of suicide.
The process of becoming a volunteer helpline counsellor requires volunteers to take part in an extensive training programme before they are permitted to work on the helpline.

Application pack that includes five main components which require completion.
· Helpline Induction Training Programme Application
· Referee Statement (please pass this form onto your chosen referee)
· Proof of Identity Form
· Declaration of Criminal Convictions
· Copy of ID
Interview stage, then training invitation. Therefore, the process of becoming a volunteer helpline counsellor requires volunteers to take part in an extensive training programme before they are permitted to work on the helpline. The training program runs through 4 full weekends and it is mandatory. Next intake training TBC soon.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Two to Three 3-hour helpline shifts per month.
The possibility to work from home it may be possible, after a certain amount of experience.
