Greet and assist visitors

Organisation:

Waikouaiti Coast Heritage Centre

Hours:

Both/Flexible

Locations:

Waikouaiti

Welcoming visitors is a great role to have and you will learn so much! You will also:

  • Be pleasant and friendly, and have a willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Learn about local history and the heritage values of our collection and also about the products for sale by local artists and crafts people.

We are a small but dedicated group who wish to expand our heritage site to become a destination for visitors from near and far. This role provides an opportunity to meet many interesting people, attain new skills and knowledge and work with other locals. If you are new to the district and want to meet other locals this is a great opportunity.

Requirements

There are no formal requirements but some knowledge of museums and retail operations would be very useful although not essential.

It would also be helpful if you are familiar with basic technology use ie EFTPOS, computer, printer. An interest in local history and visitor attractions would be a bonus.

We would like you to be reliable and willing to commit to your rostered times although there is flexibility if needed. New staff will be rostered with someone familiar with the operation of the heritage centre until such time as you feel comfortable. We expect, in time, to always have two people rostered on during opening hours.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

At present the heritage centre is open for two hours on Wednesday and Thursday 2-4pm and from 10am - 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The minimum time commitment each month would be 2-3 hours.

We also intend to open on public holidays and you may be asked to cover a shift at this time, however we can be flexible about this. Most volunteers are happy to swap shifts if you have another commitment.
