Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge is seeking dependable, organised volunteers to help sort and occasionally collect donations that directly support wāhine and tamariki living in our safe house and wider community. This hands-on role involves lifting and shelving boxes, organising donations, and keeping the storage area in order.

Volunteers will play an important part in ensuring that clothing, toiletries, bedding, and other goods are well-organised and accessible to the team when urgently needed. From gently sorting clothes to picking up donated items, your help behind the scenes supports our frontline mahi.

Requirements

📦 Able to lift light to medium boxes
💼 Organised, reliable, and able to work independently
🌿 Comfortable working within a kaupapa Māori, trauma-informed space
🛟 Respect for confidentiality and the safety of whānau
🗓️ Available during work hours (9am–4pm)
👮 Volunteers must complete an interview and be police vetted

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

1–3 hours per week, within work hours (Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm)
