Category:

Hours:

Locations:

Are you passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the greater Lake Whakatipu area and ensuring the flourishing of our native wildlife without the need to handle unpleasant tasks?

Whakatipu Wildlife Trust is on a mission to create and maintain a predator-free environment, allowing our birds and other native wildlife to thrive. To achieve this vision, they rely on the dedication of our volunteers who run traplines across the basin. With over 3,000 traps distributed among 72 different community groups, they are now seeking exceptional "Trapline Coordinator Superstars" to join their cause in the following regions:

  • Coronet Face
  • Kelvin Heights
  • KAPOW (Keeping Arthurs Point Original Wildlife)

The Role of the Coordinator:
As a Trapline Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our mission. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Making sure traps are regularly checked and rebaited traps, using the TrapNZ database.
  • Facilitating volunteer access to bait, conveniently available at the Southern Lakes Sanctuary office and the DOC visitor center in Queenstown.
  • Providing periodic updates and results to your community group, fostering motivation and enthusiasm.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with your group to assess their needs, whether that's requiring additional traps, more support, or recruiting more volunteers.
  • Reporting new developments and recruitment updates to the Whakatipu Wildlife Trust.

Worried about the technicalities? No problem! They offer comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this role. The best part is, you'll only need to commit 1-2 hours per fortnight, making it an easily manageable and incredibly rewarding opportunity to contribute to the cause.

Join WWT in creating a predator-free haven for local wildlife and experience the satisfaction of making a tangible impact on the environment.
