Can you give a few hours of your time to help older persons get out for a drive? St Andrews Home and Hospital offers rest home and hospital level care within a supportive community for its residents. With friendly staff and freshly cooked meals it creates a home-like atmosphere.

They are looking for volunteer van drivers to take their residents on outings around the Balclutha area. Residents like to have a coffee and cake somewhere along the way, or park somewhere with a good view to have a social chat.

What would you do?

  • Ensure that residents are safely transferred into and from the van during the trip
  • Engage with residents in a friendly manner during the outing
  • Provide companionship during the outing/activity to enhance their experience
  • First aid training is provided
  • Activities staff will accompany you and the residents
  • Give your time weekly
  • You will receive a full orientation and training and will always be working alongside staff

No two days are the same, time flies during the outing and it's a wonderfully rewarding experience. Beware - you might experience a 'helper's high' as your volunteering can lead to a rush of euphoria and the release of endorphins!

If you would like to volunteer asap, please contact Holmdene on 03 4181468 or email holmdene.admin@psotago.org.nz.
