Hours:

Working Hours

Locations:

Dunedin

St. Barnabas provides hot, freshly cooked, nutritious homestyle meals that are made onsite every morning. These meals are then delivered to their clients in the Dunedin area. Due to demand, however, they now need community support to deliver meals over a number of days. This is an opportunity to become a much valued part of the Meals on Wheels delivery team.

They're looking for two people to volunteer as Meals on Wheels drivers. The first, is required for a Thursday once every fortnight, and the second is required on a Friday - once a fortnight.

As a driver you will:

  • Deliver to various locations in the Dunedin area using your own vehicle
  • Politely greet clients and deliver the meals
  • There is no need to notify after delivery is complete, unless the client isn't home, which is not often
  • Meals are ready for pick up at 11:45am from St. Barnabas ( 12 Ings Ave)
  • There are between 8 to 13 meals to deliver on each run
  • Drive/deliver meals regularly for up to 60 minutes once a week (or 60 minutes once a fortnight if you prefer)
  • They are also looking for casual/on-call drivers

What you can expect as a volunteer:

  • A basic induction/orientation is provided
  • The volunteer manager is able to accompany the driver in the first instance, if necessary

The impact you will have:

  • The support of one person for an hour a week can make a huge difference to the lives of those receiving meals
  • The service simply couldn't exist without your volunteer help and donations

Requirements

  • Have your own legal roadworthy vehicle (WoF, Reg, Ins)
  • Possess a clean full driver's license
  • Have a genuine interest in working with the elderly
  • Friendly and non-judgmental manner
  • A reasonable knowledge of the Dunedin suburbs

Time commitment

  • Meal pick-up time is between 11:45pm to 11:50pm
  • Meal containers are returned to 12 Ings Ave after the run is complete
  • Pick ups, delivery's and returns usually take between 40 to 50 minutes (or 1 hour at the very most)
  • You can commit to being either a weekly, fortnightly
  • If you are interested in operating as a casual/on-call driver, they would love to hear from you
