  • Receive training from professional tutors organised at a local as well as national level by Land Search and Rescue.
  • Connect with like-minded, skilled volunteers within the admin team and the wider team
  • Be part of a respected national organisation and contribute to this very important service for the community.

Tasks will vary. You do not require a level of fitness or in-depth knowledge of the outdoors.

The ideal volunteer will have:

  • Some level of computer literacy
  • An eye for detail
  • Logical yet diverse thinking
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to work under pressure

  • If available, you may need to report to operations centres in Alexandra, Cromwell or elsewhere in the Central Otago region depending on the duration of the search. Own transport is required.

If you are unsure about whether your skills/experience are right for the role, they still encourage you to get in touch as the team work closely and are flexible in sharing duties as per each individual's strengths.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • The frequency and duration of training varies, but as a general rule the Admin Support unit will train on the third Wednesday of the month
  • Field teams train the first Wednesday of each month, and a couple of weekends a year.
  • Admin support will be needed during some field team training. This a good opportunity for you to get to know the wider team and for them to get to know you.

Once Trained:

  • Admin Support volunteers are 'on call' to support search and rescue operations.
  • This means you could be called upon to assist at any time of the day or night, and you respond if you are available.
