Devoting your time to volunteering in an emergency can be both rewarding and challenging. Emergency volunteers can come from all walks of life and can contribute a variety of skills.

Volunteers fulfil a range of roles in an emergency, including but not limited to:

  • communications (call centre/telephone, social media, public relations)
  • coordination (people/volunteer management)
  • practical tasks (general labour, catering, hospitality)
  • welfare (translation, social support, customer services)
  • logistics and planning (transport coordination, event management, operations support)
  • administrative (data collection and entry)

Volunteer South maintains a database of people who are happy to be contacted for assistance in the event of an emergency. By registering, you are agreeing to your details being shared with the appropriate agency in preparation for an emergency.
