Te Atamira is a multi-purpose, community-oriented arts and cultural space in the heart of the Whakatipu region. They offer a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, workshops, classes, performances, events and talks designed for everyone to be creative, every day. Te Atamira Volunteer Ambassadors will lend their time and energy to support and promote these programmes, making a difference and celebrating the arts in the local community.

As a Front of House Ambassador you will:

  • Play a crucial role as the first point of contact for visitors and provide a welcoming experience for them.
  • Welcome visitors, directing enquiries to members of the Te Atamira team
  • Offer tours of the venue and exhibitions, mind the gallery spaces and inform visitors about the exhibitions
  • Support in some of the and day to day administration and promotion of upcoming events/programmes

There are a variety of tasks this role might include, depending on your skills and interest. This role will be shared with other volunteer ambassadors, so be sure to indicate if you have a preference for one or more types of tasks in your application below.

Greeting and Customer Service

  • Welcome visitors, patrons, and guests upon arrival.
  • Provide information about events, exhibitions, and facilities.
  • Responding in enquiries and connecting to the relevant Te Atamira team member

Administrative Tasks

  • Maintain visitor logs and manage the distribution of promotional materials
  • Support Te Atamira team to keep the spaces orderly and assist to set up for events
  • Assist with data entry and other administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist with sale and packing of retail i.e. shop stock and artworks

Guided Tours

  • Lead tours of exhibitions, galleries, and special installations for visitors of all ages.
  • Provide insightful, engaging, and educational commentary on the artworks and artists featured.
  • Tailor tours to suit the interests and needs of different groups, including school groups, senior groups, and special interest organizations.

Visitor Engagement
*Answer questions and provide information to visitors in a friendly and approachable manner.

  • Encourage visitor feedback and participation in Te Atamira programmes.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Te Atamira, promoting its mission and programmes.

Exhibition Support

  • Assist in the setup and interpretation of exhibitions.
  • Provide feedback to the curatorial team on visitor responses and engagement.
  • Help maintain the presentation and integrity of exhibitions.

Training and Support
Comprehensive training on Te Atamira’s story and mission, the venues, current exhibitions and programmes will be provided. You will also have support from Te Atamira staff throughout your shifts and there are ongoing opportunities for skill development.

Requirements

This role would suit someone who has:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle cash and perform basic math calculations
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and office software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Enjoy connecting and interacting with people and our wonderful community.

Preferred but not required experience includes:

  • Previous experience in education, museum or gallery settings, or public speaking or customer service, retail, or hospitality.
  • Knowledge or interest in the arts and community events.
  • Familiarity with the local art scene and community.

Time commitment

Front of House Ambassadors support the Front of House team during opening hours of 9am-5pm, 7 days a week.

  • Various shifts are available: These are between 2-3 hours, with a 9am or 2pm start time.
  • Weekday and weekend options available depending on what suits you best
