MS Otago supports people affected by multiple sclerosis and other related conditions across all of Otago.

Move for MS is a fundraising event for MS Otago. This is a fully accessible 'fun run' style event where participants can choose from 1, 3 or 5km 'races'. There will also be food trucks and entertainment running alongside the race events.

Various volunteer roles available!
Signing in participants

  • welcome and scan participant entries via a cell phone app
  • give out the event map and timelines
  • answer any questions the participants may have

Race marshalls

  • stand at a certain spot on the course to ensure participants are following the rules
  • encourage participants throughout the race
  • be on the lookout for any participants who may require assistance

Traffic management

  • show people the appropriate places to park their cars
  • ensure pedestrians are getting into the event space safely

Supervising stalls (e.g. bouncy castle, games)

  • collect tickets from participants for each stall
  • ensure that participants are following the rules
  • ensure the stall items are being treated with respect

What you can expect as a volunteer

  • You will be paired with at least one other volunteer
  • You will be provided with a code of conduct as well as health and safety information.
  • You will have a staff member around throughout the event to offer support as needed
  • You will have the opportunity to learn and strengthen skills such as customer service, and working in a team

As an event volunteer you will be integral in assisting MS Otago to raise funds to continue to support, inform, advocate and educate people affected by MS. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the first time this community event has been held in Dunedin! Enjoy meeting all types of people and be actively engaging with the community.

Requirements

Ideal volunteers are people who:

  • Are friendly, approachable and enthusiastic
  • Are able to work independently and in pairs
  • Are able to stand for long periods (some roles can be done sitting down, but these are limited)
  • Please note that this event will take place outside and therefore volunteers will need to be prepared for hot or cold weather.

  • Volunteer shifts are available from 9am - 3pm.
