  • Passionate about connecting communities with the land?
  • Are you new to the area and/or want to meet amazing people?
  • Could your skills and experience guide a charitable organisation towards achieving its vision and purpose?

Te Kākano Aotearoa Trust is a charitable organisation who have their own community-based native plant nursery. They support native habitat restoration in the Upper Clutha Basin and work with local community groups, schools, organisations & businesses in the effort to promote hands-on community land care through education and participation!

Their nursery and planting volunteers hail from all around the world and span all ages - from awesome locals to tourists, youth groups and schools to local businesses. Not only do they lend a helping hand each year but they leave a permanent personal mark on the Wanaka landscape for generations to come.

How you can get involved
They are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join the board. As a trustee, you will:

  • play a crucial role in shaping the future of the organisation
  • work alongside a motivated team to ensure a continued positive impact
  • bring fresh ideas and creative solutions
  • be able to choose a project of your liking, that suits your time and skills, to lead or support. For example, one trustee is in charge of HR, another is in charge of policies.
  • support marketing efforts with relevant skills (if this is your strength!)
  • most importantly, have the time, energy and passion to act in the habitat restoration space

If you have an interest in finance, they are currently looking for a Treasurer.

  • The treasurer is supported by the trust manager.
  • Together they prepare the budget, monthly finance reports and end of year annual accounts.

Why do it?

  • an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change
  • be part of a trust with a longstanding reputation for strong governance and action
  • a collaborative and supportive board environment - the board currently has 6 trustees and there will be an induction for new trustees
  • professional development and networking opportunities
  • the chance to work with a passionate team

  • is a strategic thinker
  • is able to attend regular board meetings
  • has strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • has some time and energy
  • has a specific skill or interest you would like to share (finance, marketing, photography, etc.)

During this time your requests to connect will go through, however there may be some delay in you hearing from the organisations you select. Please be patient and if you have not heard back from them by mid January email them directly and give them a nudge. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season and summer.
