The Lake Hawea Community Centre is owned by its community. The Centre relies solely on fundraising and dedicated community volunteers to maintain operations and remain accessible to all. Due to steady growth in recent times, the Centre is restructuring its committee to ensure long-term sustainability and continued positive impact. The organisation is keen to bring on new members with fresh energy to take on leadership from long-serving committee members.

There are five key roles available:

1. The President/Chairperson
The President/Chairperson will provide strong leadership for the organisation's governance and management. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a clear vision for the Centre's future and developing strategies to achieve it.
  • Keeping abreast of and supporting the Centre's activities.
  • Helping to prepare the agenda and chair monthly meetings.
  • Following up on actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Supporting other Committee Members in their roles.
  • Acting as the public face of the Committee.

2. The Vice President
The Vice President acts as a key member of the leadership team, supporting the President. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as second in charge to the President.
  • Stepping in for the President as required in all matters outlined in the President's role description.
  • Demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills.

3. The Secretary
The Secretary provides crucial administrative support to the Committee. Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the President to prepare meeting agendas.
  • Sending out key communications, such as meeting reminders, the agenda, and minutes via email.
  • Keeping track of and documenting key actions determined at each meeting.
  • Monitoring the general email inbox and forwarding/sharing communications with appropriate Committee members.
  • Updating and maintaining files on the shared drive.

4. General Committee Member
General Committee Members work alongside the Committee to share key tasks, which may include:

  • Fundraising initiatives.
  • Compliance and building maintenance oversight.
  • Promoting the Centre and managing membership.

5. Event/Hall Manager
The Event/Hall Manager oversees the operational use of the facility. This involves:

  • Having oversight of all events being run at the hall
  • Liaising with hirers and volunteers coordinating events and activities at the LHCC.
  • Promoting Hall use within the community.
  • Reporting to the LHCC Management Committee.

Volunteers are welcome to direct their skills and interests towards the role and tasks they feel most suited to.

For all positions, candidates are ideally interested in and available to attend a few key events at the Centre throughout the year, though this is flexible based on your availability. This is a great opportunity to take on a leadership role in building community by supporting an organisation that provides a central space for connection and engagement.

An induction will be provided to bring new members up to speed with all the key information and processes of your role. You will be supported by other Committee Members, the outreach team, and enthusiastic volunteers. Further support, including access to training and mentoring, will also be available as needed.
