Space is a Parenting Place programme, facilitated at The Salvation Army Queenstown. Parents with babies from as little as one-month-old to around 8 months attend the course, and receive support for themselves and their babies through their first year and helps to build great relationships with other parents.
They meet weekly with the same class for around 20 weeks (two school terms) and discuss topics like sleep, attachment, brain development, and more with a trained facilitator. They also share a story, some songs, and some yummy food with families and this is where they need your help!
They are looking for volunteers who can help with setting up and handing out food, reading stories, singing songs or just holding babies to give the parents a break and allow them to participate in the activities and discussions and connect with other parents. At each session, you will work alongside the facilitator and another volunteer, who will guide and support you if needed as well.
This is a wonderful way to learn more about parenting support yourself, and support young families who may not have extended family in town and be a part of their village, something so essential for the diverse Whakatipu community, with many newcomers and migrants.
