Dunedin Arts Festival has a proud tradition of bringing the best and most innovative theatre, music, dance, cabaret, and writers to Dunedin for the past 23 years. The Festival is happening this autumn (27 March - 6 April) and includes ticketed shows, free events, workshops and exhibitions.

Volunteers are an essential part of the Dunedin Arts Festival team, helping get the word out about the festival and creating a fantastic Festival experience for the audiences and artists.

The Dunedin Arts Festival have the following epic opportunities open this year and they look a little something like this.

Ushering

  • Multiple ushering roles available at present! For the calendar of events, ushers will work alongside another volunteer, 1 floating Festival staff member, and the box office volunteer.

  • The role entails welcoming guests into the theatre/venue space, assisting persons to their seat, and ensuring health and safety protocols are followed in case of emergency. Once patrons are seated, ushers get to join the audience to enjoy the show. Upon open doors, at the end of the show ushers then place themselves near the exit to thank guests for their support, assist with pack down if needed, and then their shift is over!

  • The shifts will mostly be 1 hour long, the longest shift available is 3.5 hrs. For our incredible volunteers, any shows they work with us, they will get to watch.

Box Office

  • The box office role is quite simple, you will be the go to person on site that will distribute the comp tickets (door tickets) and assist with payments needing to be cleared (via Eftpos and Cash) on the door. Should guests need assistance, an experienced Volunteer or Festival staff member will be there to provide support and usher.
  • Once guests are seated, you are welcomed to enjoy the performance alongside the Ushers 🙂
  • When the show has ended, the Box office volunteer will assist to balance the Cash box (if needed), and list any purchases made with the eftpos machine. FYI - this process is super simple so that there is no need for magical math abilities!

Artist Drop off and Pick up

  • There is a small cohort of travelling artists arriving and departing throughout the Festival 🚐 Drivers will be provided with a Festival Van, the pick-up and drop off locations, and any other info needed to ensure a smooth transit.
  • Drivers will need to be comfortable operating a 12 seater vehicle, and need to have a full license.
  • Looking for volunteers that are bubbly and enthusiastic and enjoy face to face interactions.

Why volunteers enjoy this role
