Ōtepoti Mohoao Wild Dunedin, NZ Festival of Nature showcases all that makes Ōtepoti Dunedin the wildlife capital of New Zealand.

The opening event of the Wild Dunedin NZ Festival of Nature invites audiences to an engaging and fast-paced evening focused on the environment. The format features seven different speakers, each presenting for just seven minutes, offering a diverse range.

Volunteers at the event will play an important role in creating a welcoming and well-organised experience for attendees. By being approachable and attentive, volunteers help ensure that all attendees feel comfortable, informed, and that the event is accessible.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Greeting guests as they arrive.
  • Checking tickets.
  • Helping direct latecomers to their seats with minimal disruption.

This role also offers a great opportunity to engage with the public, answer questions, and provide general assistance. By being approachable and attentive, volunteers help ensure that all attendees feel comfortable, informed, and that the event is accessible.

An induction and Health and Safety email will be sent out to volunteers and a full briefing given before your shift.

Requirements

  • Friendly, approachable, and well-presented, helping to create a positive first impression for all attendees.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people.
  • Feel confident offering assistance and answering basic questions.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and a calm, helpful attitude —especially when managing late arrivals or busy entry periods.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
  • Able to follow instructions, manage simple tasks like ticket checking, and stay organised in a fast-paced environment.
    *A basic level of physical mobility is helpful, as the role may involve standing for periods and moving around the venue.
  • Minimum age is typically 18 years.
  • Previous volunteering or customer service experience is preferred, but not required. A willingness to learn and a positive attitude are the most important qualities.

Time commitment

  • 10 April 2026, 5.30pm - 6.30pm.
  • Volunteers are welcome to stay for the whole event (6pm to approx. 7pm).
