Ōtepoti Mohoao Wild Dunedin, NZ Festival of Nature showcases all that makes Ōtepoti Dunedin the wildlife capital of New Zealand.

NatureDome at Forsyth Barr Stadium is a vibrant, family-friendly event featuring live performances, food stalls, environmental exhibitors, and a lively craft market. It offers a fun and engaging atmosphere for people of all ages to connect with nature and the community.

Volunteers play a key role in bringing the event to life, with a variety of tasks available throughout the day. These include assisting with event set-up, supporting different activities and areas during the event, and helping with pack-down at the end. It’s a hands-on opportunity to be part of a dynamic event while contributing to a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees and stallholders alike.

  • Event Set-up: 7am-11am
  • Entrance gate attendant 10:30am -12.30pm or 12.30-2.30 or 2.30-4pm
  • Bouncy Castle support: 11am-1.30pm or 1.30-4pm
  • Pack-down: 4pm-6pm

An induction and Health and Safety email will be sent out to volunteers and a full briefing given before your shift.

Requirements

  • Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic, helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for families and visitors of all ages.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed are key, as the event involves a variety of moving parts.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a proactive mindset.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team, communicating clearly, and adapting to different tasks throughout the day.
  • Reasonably fit and happy to be on their feet, as roles may include setting up spaces, assisting stallholders, guiding attendees, and helping with pack-down.
  • Being organised and able to follow instructions is important, along with a basic level of problem-solving when supporting the public.
  • Minimum age is typically 16 years or older (depending on event guidelines).
  • No specific experience is required, making this a great opportunity for first-time volunteers.
  • However, any previous experience in events, customer service, working with children, or manual tasks is beneficial but not essential.
