Light Up Winter - 2026

Light Up Winter (LUW) is a free community event in lively Cromwell. It is a night filled with music, magic and light.

The Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group is a non-profit organisation tasked with drawing people to the Cromwell area. LUW is a long standing event that brings the community together to celebrate winter and the coming of spring. There are light installations, food vendors, fire dancers, live music and more. The evening culminates in the releasing of 1000 sky lanterns that create a sense of wonder and awe to behold.

They are looking for energetic people to be a part of several aspects of the event on Saturday and Sunday (August 1-2). From the set up to pack down & everything in between.

Roles available:

• Setting up gazebos
• Putting up lighting -festoons, fairy lights etc
• Helping with installations
• Supporting families to safely light the lanterns (involves kneeling down)
• Taking down gazebos
• Carefully dismantling some installations (Saturday 8:30-9pm)
• Dismantling the stage decor
• Being able to try your hand at anything that is needed in the moment that is not listed. As a small token of appreciation, volunteers will receive a complimentary cup of mulled wine or hot lemon, ginger & honey.

Requirements

• Able to lift, carry & climb ladders if necessary
• Able to take direction
• Flexible with assigned tasks
• A sense of humour
• It is usually a very cold couple of days so you need to be prepared for that.

Time commitment

You will be given an online form that lets you pick your role and time slots, though flexibility is required if they already have roles filled. Choose any 2 hour slots:

• Saturday August 1, 10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm, 2pm-4pm, or 7pm-9pm
• Sunday August 2, 9am-11am, or 10am-12pm

Briefing will be given 10 minutes before your time slot. You will also be emailed the briefing information before the event.
