Transporting elderly people to do shopping and other activities.
Tasks involved includes picking people up from their place of residence, driving to the supermarket, assisting with alighting from the van, fetching trollies and supporting people to get to the supermarket, stowing groceries, keeping records of which groceries in bins belong to whom and then dropping home and retrieving their groceries.
Depending on the day, they may be required to assist clients into their place of residence with the groceries.

Requirements

  • Licenced to drive a 10 seater minivan (Class 1 Full Licence required)
  • Empathy and patience with older people
  • A knowledge of first aid would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of fueling up vehicles and use of petrol card essential
  • Assisting with cleaning the vehicle inside and out
  • Willing to wear identifying vest as a part of volunteering. Tidy casual dress required
  • Basic cash handling and numeracy skills.

Depot is based in South Dunedin

Initial orientation and training will be provided.
Volunteers will be interviewed and police vetting will be undertaken. Referees are required and will be contacted by phone by the coordinator.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Approximately 3 hours on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Day/period negotiable between matched client and volunteer.
