The Whakatipu Reforestation Trust's vision is to restore the biodiversity of the Whakatipu Basin through revegetation projects, education, collaboration & advocacy. Their community nursery, located at Jardine Park, Poplar Drive, Kelvin Heights. was established in 2014, where they grow all of their native plants for community planting days on public land around the Whakatipu Basin. These sessions are open to everyone in the community. No experience is needed and the Nursery Coordinator is there to assist all volunteers.

While helping at the nursery you will:

  • potting up seedlings and weeding pots
  • have an opportunity to learn new skills
  • gain knowledge about growing native plants
  • make a difference to our local environment
  • enjoy morning tea with your fellow volunteers
  • meet lots of interesting people

Requirements

No specific skills are required, just a willingness to learn about growing native plants and a desire to make a personal difference to our beautiful environment. Please bring your own gardening gloves, hat, water & sunscreen. You will need to organise your own transport to Jardine Park, Kelvin Heights.

Time commitment

Winter Hours until the end of August: Wednesday Afternoons 1:00pm - 4:00 pm.
Summer Hours from 7th September: Wednesday Mornings 9:00am - 12:00 noon
Drop in style - come and go as suits you.
