The Whakatipu Reforestation Trust's mission is to restore the native biodiveristy of the Whakatipu Basin through revegetation projects, education, collaboration & advocacy. Since 2015, WRT volunteers have grown and planted over 70,000 native trees and shrubs around the Whakatipu Basin. Their Feehly Hill planting site has been planted with over 4500 native plants since 2015.
You would help them with maintaining Keystone Sites around Arrowtown - at Bush Creek, Feehly Hill & Whitechapel Reserve.
Your main duties would be at newer sections where smaller shrubs and trees requires regular maintenance so the plants can grow large and strong enough to out-compete the weeds.
Maintenance includes both hand weeding and use of a scrub bar.
If you enjoying being outdoors, and want to help with the less glamorous side of revegetation projects, please contact us for a chat.

Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break. During this time your requests to connect will go through, however there may be some delay in you hearing from the organisations you select. Please be patient and if you have not heard back from them by mid January email them directly and give them a nudge. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season and summer.
