Dunedin City Council's Parks and Recreation Strategy aim is that the Dunedin community be more active more often when it comes to maintaining local facilities, parks and open spaces that are enjoyed by all. The DCC supports a diverse range of opportunities for volunteers to engage with the environment.

As a Conservation Superstar you will be:

  • Planting
  • Weed control
  • Pest control
  • Rubbish clean-ups
  • Track maintenance (walking tracks and bike tracks)
  • There are various opportunities on parks and reserves
  • You will always be working alongside others

Training provided:

  • Each respective conservation project has its own health and safety induction and supervisor

Requirements

  • Each project requires a different level of fitness and skills
  • Initial health and safety orientation is provided - in order to keep you and others safe
  • Ability to mobilise over uneven surfaces
  • Ability to follow health & safety protocols is essential
  • Suitable footwear, sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and clothing for the outdoors (windbreaker parker)

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Time commitment varies depending on the project
  • Some projects require regular commitment while other projects are one-off events
  • Generally, the planting is done during the colder and wetter months (April - October) while maintenance is done throughout the year

Volunteer South's office is closed from Friday 20th December until Monday January 6th. Many organisations listing roles online will also be taking a break.
