Blind Low Vision NZ (formally The Blind Foundation) is New Zealand’s main provider of practical and emotional support for over 14,000 Kiwis who are blind or have low vision, enabling them to face their future with confidence.

With a vision of ‘Life without limits – Kahore e Mutunga Ki te Ora’, BLVNZ staff, and volunteers, from around the country aim to enable people who are blind or have low vision to be self-reliant and live the life they choose.

BLVNZ equip people with the skills needed to participate fully in society. This includes support in living independently, getting around, using technology, continuing to read and communicate, being socially active and staying in, or looking for, work.

As a Driver for BLVNZ Central Otago Support Group you will be:

  • Meeting and greeting members when you pick them up from home
  • Assisting clients to enter and exit the vehicle
  • Transporting members using the community van to the monthly social event
    (which you may attend before returning members home)
  • Relating to clients of different backgrounds and cultures in a friendly and respectful manner

Training provided:

  • Instruction is provided on engaging and interacting with low vision and blind persons

Requirements

BLVNZ require volunteers who:

  • Have a Full current Drivers License and clean driving record
  • Are reliable, personable, trustworthy, respectful and patient
  • Have good spoken communication skills
  • Can relate to clients of different ages, backgrounds and cultures

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • Approx. 4 hours on the fourth Tuesday of the month from around 12:30pm
    (Time can vary depending on event location)
