WAI Wānaka is a community organisation working to accelerate local action for fresh water. Their vision is to maintain healthy ecosystems and community wellbeing for future generations. Their team works with local individuals, catchment groups, landowners, councils, businesses, community groups and schools to improve ecosystem health, reverse biodiversity loss and keep our waterways healthy.

How you can help
As part of the working bee crew, you will be:

  • assisting in planting native trees and shrubs
  • maintaining current plantings
  • assist with watering, rabbit proofing and litter pickup as needed

What you can expect

  • You will be guided by a wonderful team of people who are passionate about the land and waterways.
  • Each session is a team-up between WAI Wānaka and a local restoration group for that area. These are people who live near this place and care deeply about its wellbeing.
    *A great opportunity to learn about tree planting, gain flora and fauna identification skills and rabbit proofing.

Requirements

This role is suited to someone who cares about the land and is interested in making community relationships.
All other necessary skills will be trained.
There will always be a task for everyone, although the work of planting and maintenance usually requires: bending, digging, carrying weight and walking on uneven surfaces.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Rubber boots
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather
  • Water bottle
  • Friends and whānau!

Time commitment

The working bees usually take place on Saturdays in various locations, from 10-12pm. Feel free to send us an email with your interest and we can connect you to specific events.
