The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is seeking a dedicated volunteer literacy coach in the Gore/Tapanui area to provide valuable support to an adult student in need. As a Literacy Coach, you have the opportunity to give back and make a real difference in someone's life. It's a fulfilling and enjoyable role that allows you to share your love for learning while empowering others to reach their full potential.

RYALT welcome individuals with or without teaching experience, as they provide comprehensive training and ongoing support. Your enthusiasm, patience, and commitment are what matter most. Join their team of dedicated volunteers and embark on a rewarding journey together!

As a Literacy Coach you will:

  • Meet your adult student locally 1-2 hours a week at the Gore Library or another designated place.
  • Support the student to achieve their literacy goals.
  • Be provided with full training and given all the support you need.

Requirements

  • Excellent spoken English, reading and writing skills.
  • Reliable and patient.
  • An analytical mind, friendly personality.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

  • 1-2 hours weekly.
