The Lantern Workshop crew play a key role in the lead-up to the Carnival. Working with children, families, and creative minds of all ages, they assist the public in crafting their own unique lanterns. Crew members help set up the space, guide participants through the lantern-making process, and pack down after each session. It’s a hands-on, joy-filled role perfect for those who love creativity, community, and a bit of glue!

📍 Location: Meridian Mall, George Street, Dunedin
📝 Volunteers who participate can gain valuable experience, receive a reference letter, and have university volunteering hours signed off.
🍴Volunteers will receive kai (food) during their shift

Requirements

✨ Ideal Crew Members Are:

  • Enthusiastic and enjoy working with children and families
  • Friendly, confident communicators who create a welcoming atmosphere
  • Comfortable getting hands-on with art and craft activities

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Induction Session (Choose One):
🗓️ Saturday 16th May or Sunday 17th May
🕑 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Then volunteer for Lantern Workshops (plus set-up and pack-down time) during weekends:

  • 23–24th May - Cocoons lantern theme
  • 30-31st May - Snails lantern theme
  • 6–7th June - Kiwis lantern theme
