Kaitūao o te Taitonga | Volunteer South is a charitable trust that engages, connects, and supports both tūao (volunteers) and volunteer-involving organisations across the Southern region of Aotearoa New Zealand. Their vision is to foster vibrant, interconnected communities strengthened by the transformative power of volunteering.

Volunteer South is currently entering an exciting period of change and growth. They are seeking experienced board or committee members to join their governance team and help guide their strategic direction, ensuring they continue to maximise the benefits of volunteering across Otago and Southland.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to monthly hybrid board meetings.
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing board papers, financial reports, and strategic documents (approx. 5 hours/month).
  • Participate in relevant sub-committees based on your area of expertise.
  • Provide strategic governance, oversight, and advocacy to support Volunteer South’s mission and staff.
  • Help steer the organisation through its current period of change management.

Requirements

Previous experience on a board or committee.

Strong competencies in at least one of the following areas along with representation from Queenstown Lakes, Central Otago or Southland:

  • Finance / Treasurer Experience: Financial oversight, budgeting, or accounting background.
  • Human Resources (HR): Employment relations, workforce planning, or culture development.
  • Change Management: Experience guiding organisations through structural, operational, or strategic transitions.

Time commitment

  • Monthly hybrid board meetings (available via Zoom or in-person) + flexible hours for prep work.
  • An additional estimated 5 hours per month is required for reading and sub-committee commitments.
