Drive My Life Driving Mentor

Central Otago REAP's vision is to enrich our communities through innovative programmes. REAP fills gaps in mainstream education service provision by providing integrated and educational initiatives across Early Childhood, Schools and the Adult Education sectors.

The overall purpose of Central Otago REAP is to provide educational support and assistance across all sectors including early childhood, primary, secondary and adult education. Central Otago REAP is a community-based flexible resource providing formal and non-formal learning opportunities.

Volunteer driving mentors are required to sit with learner drivers who are practicing their skills behind the wheel. Learner drivers are referred to the Drive My Life programme for a variety of reasons including: lack of financial needs, no warranted or registered vehicles in the home, no one in the home has a full drivers licence to be able to supervise the learner driver, learning difficulties or driving without a valid licence.

Mentors will be paired with the same learner until they successfully pass their driving test and will see them increase their skills and gain confidence and proficiency. The role is not so much technical, but you will be their support buddy, someone who listens, is focused and full of encouragement.

Mentors help someone gain a life changing goal. A Drive My Life car is available for use and all petrol and insurance costs are covered. Full training is given. Support is given to learner drivers throughout Central Otago: Tapanui, Roxburgh, Omakau, Ranfurly, Alexandra, Cromwell, Luggate, Wanaka, Hawea Flat.

  • Have held a current NZ drivers licence for at least 2 years.
