Out & About Wānaka aspire to create a more inclusive and understanding society in Wānaka, where every individual, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, feels valued and celebrated. The organisation is volunteer-led and embedded in the local community!

The Pride Festival includes a market, information booths, a living library, drag shows, a food truck and a sausage sizzle, and serves as a fundraiser for Out & About to continue their mahi in the community. This year the event is bigger than last year, and to bring it all together, they are looking for volunteers to fill the following roles.

Volunteer Support

  • Support volunteers and the volunteer coordinator on the day, ensuring shifts are filled as scheduled
  • Can be a shared shift (AM/PM), or a motivated individual can stay all day
    Mainly Saturday 15/11 all day

Food & Bev Manager

  • Oversee all food and beverage operations at the Pride Festival.
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Ensure quality service and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Can be a shared role
    Ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, experience in hospitality, and a passion for creating a memorable festival experience.
    Saturday 15/11 All day

Food & Bev assistant

  • Assist with setup, mainly during the day
  • Serving and maintaining cleanliness
  • Barista shifts also available
  • Hospitality experience is a plus
    Ideal for friendly, detail-oriented volunteers passionate about creating a positive experience for all attendees.
    Saturday 15/11 daytime

Bar Staff

  • Serve drinks at evening events
  • Handle EFTPOS
  • Maintain cleanliness and stock management
  • Experience in bartending or hospitality is a plus but not required.
    Ideal for energetic, customer-focused individuals.
    Friday night 14/11 and Saturday night 15/11

Decor and Design Team

  • Assist in designing and creating event decor and infrastructure
  • Ideal for creative individuals with a passion for crafting vibrant, inclusive spaces
  • Experience in design or trades is a plus (This is mainly done before the event, and will take place from mid-October)
  • Can be a shared role between 2 people
    Friday 14/11 and Saturday 15/11

Site Crew
This is a varied roles and you might assist with:

  • Setup and breakdown of equipment
  • Crowd management
  • Supporting vendors and performers
  • 6 volunteers required for this team
    Overall, this team ensures a smooth, safe, and enjoyable experience for all attendees. Ideal for hands-on team players.
    Friday 14/11 and Saturday 15/11

Ticketing & Customer Service

  • Assist with ticket sales, scanning, and providing information to attendees
  • Customer Service experience is a plus
  • Need multiple volunteers for this role
  • Youth welcome to apply for this role
    Ideal for detail-oriented, friendly volunteers who enjoy interacting with the public.
    Friday 14/11 evening and Saturday evening 15/11

Photographers & Videographers

  • Document key moments, performances, and the diverse community in attendance
  • Experience in photography/videography is a must
  • Youth welcome to apply for this role if experienced
    Ideal for creative, detail-oriented volunteers passionate about storytelling through visual media.
    During the week of 11/11 - 16/11, as and when

Sustainability/Green Team

  • Promote recycling
  • Manage waste disposal
  • Encourage eco-friendly practices among attendees & events
  • 4 volunteers required for this role
    Saturday 15/11 day time

There will be an induction evening for all volunteers to get introduced to each other, the Out & About team and learn more about their roles.
