The Kamau Taurua/Quarantine Island is a DOC recreation reserve and is administered by the Community. Once covered in lush native forest, Quarantine Island was left almost barren after more than a hundred years of farming. Now part of the island is being revegetated. This is a major project that the Community manages. The other major focus is providing accommodation to visiting groups.
